METHODIST CIRCUIT.
The Quarterly Meeting.
The quarterly meeting of officebearers in the Franklin Methodist Circuit was held on Saturday afternoon, October .">rd, in the Pukekohe church, the Rev. George Frost, superintendent minister, presiding over a very large attendance. The chairman extended a very hearty welcome to Mr Avery, local preacher, who has recently come to the circuit and is now resident at Buckland.
The membership of the church within the circuit was reported ou, revealing an increase of six for the quarter.
The income for the quarter was shown to have been well maintained.
Satisfactory reports were made upon the work of the respective Sunday schools. The .superintendent stated that to date the amount received in aid of Foreign Missions wa- £ll3 12s (>d.
Permission was given the Buckland friends to make structure improvements to the church building.
Hearty invitations were given to and accepted by the Rev. George Frost and Rev. John IL Cable to labour in tho circuit a sec md year. A cordial invitation was also extended to Mr Ashton Fitchett, Home Missionary, stationed at Tuakau, to remain a third year. A unanimous decision was arrived at to the effect that the time had arrived for a division of the circuit, and it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the Conference that a new circuit, to lie called the Waiuku circuit, be formed, Mauku, I Waiau Pa and Karaka No. 1 and • No. '2 to remain in the Pukekohe or | Franklin circuit. Messrs F. Souster and C. J. West | were appointed delegates to the Dis i trict Synod, and Messrs W. 11. Barriball and E. Stevenson substitute | delegates. It was resolved to tako retiring I collections on tho Sunday preceding | Christmas Day and at the Christmas I Day service in aid uf tho Methodist ' orphanage. lu accordance with a new rule of | conference directing the appointment of auditors, Messrs T. G. Usher and Jos. Hunter wero appointed for tho Franklin circuit. A conference remit, recommending ■ that all ministers bo granted two weeks' rest annually, met with the I hearty support of tho meeting. The date of tho next meeting was lixed for the- first Saturday iu January.
