The Pukekohe West Road Board has accepted the tender of R. Dalton for earthwork on Hamilton's road, towards Buckland. The price was £7B, drain £3 los extra. The only other tender was from Bilkey Bros, £IOB. At the Pukekohe Court on Wednesday, before Messrs C. K. Laurie and C. Roadley, J.'sP., Robert Bell was convicted and discharged on a charge of drunkenness, and for using obscene language was fined £5, or fn default 21 days' imprisonment. In our advertising columns Mr H. D. Bedford is announced to lecture in Pukekohe and Tuakau. Mr Bedford, who is perhaps best known as the holder of the record number of votes ever polled for a Member of Parliament iu New Zealand, is regarded as an authority upon the subject of his lecture, aud should be well worth hearing. For some time tho Pukekohe West Road Board has been in doubt as to the rate it should strike, tho over-lapping of the county rate creating some difficulty. At yesterday's meeting of the Board notice was given to strike a rate of a halfpenny over the wholo district, and in addition to collect another halfpenny in tho case of each special rate. At a well attended meeting of the Pukekohe Cricket Club it was resolved not to enter the sub-league as the train service was not convenient. However, it was hoped that matches would be arranged with Papatoetoe, Papakura, Waiuku, Mauku and possibly Pokeno, as well as holiday matches. A match has been arranged for Labour Day with the Arawa Club. This is a strong Auckland team and it is expected that the Pukekohe team will be kept busy that day.
