THE COUNTY ELECTIONS.
"lie nothing extenuate, nor set doicn auaht in malire."
The announcement that Mr J. Batty, chairman of the Karaka Koad Board, is to contest the Mauku riding will remind the ratepayers that the elections f/r the Franklin County Council are approaching. Mr Batty, we understand, has had a large number of requests from residents throughout the ridirg to offer his services and we are glad to hear that he has consented. The Mauku, like other ridings, needs to have as its representative a member who will work and is capable of self-sacrifice. As a Road Board member Mr Batty has been indefatigable in his endeavours to promote the well-bung of his eonrtituency and those who kDow him best are fully agreed that in the wider sphere of usefulness the ratepayers would be benefitted Ly his industry, his far-sighted capacity, his experience as an administrator and his scrupulous integrity. At a County Council meeting some time ago Cr Henry, the present Mauku representative, hinted that ha would not be a candidate this November. We have not since heard what his intentions aiv. At a later date we shall deal more fully with the work that the present representatives have done and make more extended reference to the contests which take place in November next.
