PROGRESS OF WAIUKU.

| The most noticeable addition to j the township of Waiuku recently made has been the erection of an up-to-date premises for the National Bank. The directors of this Bank, j recognising the future possibilities of Waiuku, opened a branch in i small premises in August, 1910, just abou f , four years ago. There is now ample proof that the decision was a wise one and that the growth of j business must have been phenomenal ! to justify the erectiou of such a fine I edilice as that which has just been I completed. Practically tho best comer site in i the town was secured and premises J to the value of £2OOO were at once i put under way.

WAIUKU'S BIG BANK BUILDING.

The new building is built of brick, measures 50 x 40 outside, is of very massive and imposing appearauce, and is surmounted with an artistically dosigned parapet. A neatly-con-structed arch, supported by massive pillars, is built at the entrance doorway, which is on the corner, the neat modillions and showy dental courses giving a very plying effect. The banking room is -JO x 'J-"> and all ceilings are 1. feet high, and are finished with a handsome libre plaster cornice, the woodwork around the counter is panelled and some very beautiful grained riiuu has

been used in its construction. Iho public space ha-- been fully provided for and there is plenty of room for customers. Tho building also cjutains a manager's room, sitting room and a bath room, this latter having a leaded floor and a large porcelain bath. The bank can be congratulated on its enterprise in putting up such a tine building and it is very evident they are satisfied with the prospects of the district. They are also extremely fortunate in having such a capable and reliable man as Mr Armitago for manager, whosesound judgment in all comuioiial matters is so highly esteemed around the district.

The contractor, Mr J. Hewsou, of Pukckohe, can be highly complimented on turning out such a good job, everything being left in lirst- * class order and all work reflecting on the builder and his work UVen. ANOTHER EXTENSION. From an advertisement in this issue it will be sei n that the National is extending facilities to its clients and lias now made arrangements to open receiving agencies every Tuesday morning at Otau.i and on Fridays at Aka Aka.
