KARAKA ROAD BOARD.
The September Meeting. There were present on Saturday Messrs J. Batty (chaiiman , Schlaepfer, Sutton, Glassou and Johnston lIIE ko.W'MAN, The chairman reported the roadman had completed tin' formation and grading on the old Village road. He was now working oil the main road between the school and the black bridge. The chairman was authorised to engage a supervisoi *>f road work when in.« considered the services of stic'i were necessary. i HE '.TAUKY. The chairman said work had been started at the quarry and everything was working well. The first 100 yards of metal along the face was softer than was anticipated, but he was assured that the balancj would be harder. He would like to secure the opinion of the County Council engineer and to seek his advice whether they should crush the first 100 yards or use it for foundations. Mr Gla-son remarked that some years ago the same experience iiad been met with, but though the metal was soft it had stood very well. i i.e.wjiX'. anii i;i:i'\ii;s. It was reported that the clearing on Herd's road and repairs to the Four Mile bridge had been effected. iIKNKUAL NATE. It was decided to strike a general rate of ;d in the £. I KUItY KOAII. Mr Glasson reported tint ho had inspected Ferry road. Two Idlings and culverts would bo required. Mr I'rqiihart was agreeable to the diversion of the road, the road line at present used to become the road. He estimated the cost of tlm culverts etc., at about £:>o. The best method of doing tho work sug-ge-ted was discus.sol and the members favoured leaving it to Messrs Urjuhart and Falls to attend to. si TiIEKI.ANI>'s Ko\|i. Mr Johnston said Mr Strong had asked when work was to be started on Sutherland's road.—lt was resolved that the engineer diaw up specilications and call for tenders. .lAMU'.S"X , s now. Mr Lockie Gannon, the Board's engineer, repoited he had taken levels and prepared plans in connection with the proposed formation work on the new road through Jamieson's property, He had arranged to meet Mr BiggWither, the district engineer, at the site. i.Ool's -lIEtl AT I'AEKAIA. The general manager replied to the application for the erection of a goods shed at Paerata, '' that all available funds have been allocated for more urgent and important works, and in view of the urgent necessity for restricting the expenditure as far as practicable I regret that after giving the matter every consideration I cannot see my way to comply with the request.'" UI.V'AIA Mil D 1 ■E. Mr R. F. Moore, engineer for the Ilingaia bridge, reported progress for the month ending September 18 th: "The contractor has placed the footings for sever, sets of columns and brought two sets up to girder level. Also the abutment at tho Papakura end has been built up to girder level There are eightylive yards of concrete in place, together with three tous of steel. The steel for the girders and decking, amounting to about 80 tous, is expected to arrive in Auckland on tho •JOtli inst, and when landed on sites of bridges the contractor will push on with the works in a much more expeditious manner. I have passed progress payment for i'oOO."' .1 \M I r.sox's It \II.WA Y I HosSIXo, The chairman reported that tho Government asked £7O for making the crossing to Jamieson's road at Paerata. It was decided that the chairman, Messrs Schlaepfer and Sutton interview the engineer and make arrangements with him to secure the crossings. -I'D I VI. 1! \ I 1.. The chairman gave notice to move at the next meeting that a special rate of 1 J,d lie struck over the special rating area for the Ilingaia and Whangamaire bridges. i I'll I\l \ I \ i;o w>. The grading and forming of the road between the proposed Ilingaia and Whangamaire bridges was referred to the chairman and Mr Glasson to inspect and report. Mr Schlaepfer mentioned the necessity of widening the li'ling at Crawford's bridge. It was resolved to consult the engineer on the matter.
