Mr R. Daniels, for sonic time past with Mr J. A. Cornrie, has received an advantageous appointment in tho " far north " and leaves to take up his new duties on Saturday next.
in connection with the terrible mining disaster at Huntly, in which some 39 miners lost their lives, the Mayor of Pukeiohe, Mr C. h. Lawrie, on Monday wired to the chairman of the fluntly Tot\n Boaid as follows: "Convey sincerest sympathy from residents Pukekohe, re your terrible mining disaster." A suitable reply has he:n received. Mr Fred Brown conducted the Dutch auction at the Presbyterian ilower show. His banter was effective. " Here's some gingerbread," ho said, " it's four or five pounds weight—and as light as a feather." Buying was fairly brisk but as is usually the case at afterfair auction sale 3 tho purchasers mostly got bargains. At the meeting convened to consider the disposal of the funds on hand from tho sports meeting held in Pukekohe some three years ago it was decided, on the motion of Messrs J. Roulston and J. Konnclly, to hand the money, £V2 os, to the Pukekohe Patriotic Fund. Mr A. B. Baiter was treasurer of the fund.
In the l'ukekolie Magistrate's Court, on Monday, before Messrs C. K. Lawrie and R. F. Webster, J.'sP., a labcurer named James Crawford was charged with having been drunk ard disorderly, and with using obscere language, on Saturday night, lhe police happened to be on the spot and heard the offensive words. On the first charge a fine of 5s and on the second a fine of £1 was imposed.
On Saturday afternoon the Pukekohe Kugby Union held a fancy dress football match in an endeavour 1 raise cash tc swell tho Patriotic Fund. A procession started from the Premier Hall at about o p.m. and marched through King street and Queen street to the Pukekohe recreation ground. A number of footballers anil ottiers turned out in fancy dress and romping football was indulged in.
Mr W. R. Wright, who recently went on a tour of the Homeland, arrived in Wellington last Tuesday by the "Corinthic" and returned to his heme at Mauku on Wednesday. Mr Wright has had a most interesting trip, having spent a good while inspecting numerous old arc! historical casths and spots in England and Scotland. His many friends are all glad tJ see him safely back and in good health. The auction sale of furniture held at the premises of Mr W. Thomas, cabinetmaker, Pukekohe, proved on the whole to Le satisfactory considering the tightness of the money market. At a later date Mr do Montalk will again visit Pukekohe to dispose ol the balanco of the stock which is well manufactured and up-to-date in every particular.
