TUAKAU TOWN BOARD ELECTION.

" We nothing extenuate, nor set down auaht in malice."

The electors of Tuakau are taking a keen inteiest in the election of their first Town Board. In the movements which have made for the advance of this go-ahead township the Tuakau Progressive League has played an important part. That body has a great many achievements to its credit and Tuakau enjoys a prominence cow, as the result of the activities of the League, which it would not have attained but for the organisation. The League has been behind Vc ell'ort towards securing local self-government, and it is therefore only natural that its members should desire to see the Progressives as commissioners of the lirst Town Board. In a sense the Board will be the (successors of the League, because in future Tuakau will have tha Board as its responsible body—a body which can be made effective as a mouth-piece in expressing the needs, the aims and the aspirations of the town district. By ballot amongst themselves the Progressive League have lelected the candidates they are putting forward. These are Messrs W. Strahan, H. McGuirt, H. B. Free. J. Pine', J. d. Ryder, H. Craig and Dynes Fulton. In selecting a "ticket ' the idea is not t" create a close corporation tut, if possible, to get together a Board of Commissioners who are united in their determination to make for the progress and good-government of Tuakau. The electors will be fortunate it they secure the services of the nominees of the Progressive League, who have behind thtm a lire record of usefulness. It is rather a pity that the administrative help of all wno are willing to give it cannot be availed of, but those candidate who do not win election can still give assistance in pro noting the best interests of the ".own district. As we scan the names of the other candidates we can see some whom we would like to see en the Board —and that is a fueling which we are sure is shared by a great many people in Tuakau. but the number to be called n seven. For their opening contest the electors of Tuakau are in a happy although embarrassing position of having much good material to choose from, so that there is an assurance in advance that the Board will be worthy of the prosperous district which it will represent.
