For Active Service.
MEN FROM WAIUKU. Sergt-.Majir Milne, who received rotice of ac«.(ptanc3 for active service last Wednesday, left Waiuku on Friday. Hs has been attached to an infantry divisi n. I'rior to flis departure he was the recipient of a uaefiil shaver's companion from members cf the 3rd Auckland Kogiment, local squadron. Captiin Aldred, who made the presentation, expressed regret that there was no time to arrange a send-off owing to the short notice of Sergt.-Major Milne's departure, and also referred to the general regret at hi? leaving. At a time, however, when the Empire was involved in serious warfare, he felt sure that all appreciated the patriotic action of these who were leaving for active service. Oj behalf of the squadron be wish d Sergt.-Major M:lne good luck and a safe return. Sergt. Majir Milne replied in appropriate teims. Word was received on Saturday by Quartermaster-Sergeant C. H. Greenhead to the effect that Sergt.'Major Milne had been transferred to a mounted regiment.
Waiuku district's contribution to the active svrvice list to Monday totals fifteen mounted and several in the infantry forces. Mr J. W. Hamilton, of Awhitu, of the local squcdron, has been accepted for active service and left for camp at Auckland last Saturday. THE TERRITORIALS.
The local territorials are naturally much cut up by reason of having to give up their uniforms and rifles. It is hoped to replace same before lorie. The fact that each man goinß away has to take two uniforms causud a demand thht could not he met in any other way, as the factories could r.ot make them quickly enough.

At Saturday's mating of, the trustees there wt-te present: Dr E. Howrlen, chairman, Messrs A. M. Harriball, H. B. Armitagr, C. Hodgkinsnn, J. D. (.haliner?, H. 0. Mellsop and tha secrtary. Drummond (I'ullok) forwarded the sum of £l6 collected in ih<;t district, anJ ol:0 intimated thr.t a horse, r'onat.d by Mr Jas. Giver, had been s:r.t to Waiuk". 'J ha treasurer's (Mr 11. ti. Armitajc) repjrt showed that contributions received to date totalled £3-14 13? 3d. Pt*ym;r t < irad?, includirg cheque for £IOO to Iljmilton fund, totalled £223 18s.
Horses, equipment and other ito:us purchased since last meeting were detailed to the meeting, and a res ilution was adopted approving of all payments made. Accounts were passed lor saddlery equipment fur £OO 10s (id. A resolution was adopted expressing dissatisfac'ion with the small amount of space given in the Auckland papers to nMVt of Waiuku s patriotism, while patriotic news of far less merit was given prominence. It was considered that Waiuku news had been unreasonably curtailed. Suggestions, of special benefit entertainments were held over for future consideration.
It was decided t> call in all collecting lbts by Saturday, September 12th, so that tho exact amount donated can be asccitained.
