The Drury Response.

FAREWELLING THEIR BOYS

Corporal Halidav ami Troopers Edward Fielding and Fred Gildnrd, three of our bravo volunteers for active service in Europe, were entertained at a social in tin Drury Hull on Wednosday evening. Though notice of tlio entertainment was veiy shoit the hall was crowded liy a number of friends from all around the district who attended, glad of the oppoitunity to bid good-bye to our dear boys. Several appropriate speeches were made, among the speakers being Messrs Flanagan, (ilasson and Arthur Sutherland. The last-named gentleman, in addressing the threo guests, remarked that his grandfather died on the field of Waterloo, and although he hoped that they would live to return to Drury, it was (juite possible that it might be their privilege to fight under the same Old Flag near whero his grindfathor and many thousands of brave Britishers had fought a hundred years

Trooper Fielding, speaking 011 behalf of his mules and himself, thanked th» speakers lor the many kind wishes and sentiments ex-[ire-v:-d. lie also thanked the whole company for tin- full-lieirtod manner in which they hid turned out to hid them good-bye. During the evening Messrs W. Cahiiuott and \V. Thompson sang several patriotic sungs. A little dancing was indulged in, voluntary uiusie being supplied by Mrs Lodge, and also Messrs Cossoy and Morgan. Of course the usual light refreshments wore galore. The three volunteers weie in uniform and being strapping fi-llows looked soldiers every inch. We are proud of them and are sure they will give a good account of themselves. SERGT.-MAJOR lIATT

ISergt.-Major Hatt's Drury sijuad presented him by way of a little paiting gift a handsome case, chock full of those useful coins. Tho iSergt.-Major was very popular with tho boys aud all rogret his leaving.
