PARLIAMENTARY UNION.
New Ministry Takes Office.
Tho Pukekohe Parliamentary Union met again last evening, about 27 members, and some onlookers, being present. In the absence of the Governor (Mr A. B. Baiter) the Speech from the Throne was road by Mr J. A. Comrie, who had been unanimously re-elected as Speaker. The new Prime Minister, Mr H. H. D. Wily, announced that the following colleagues had joined him in Cabinet : —Minister for Finance, Mr C. K. Lawrie; Minister for Land and Agriculture, Mr J. W. Johns ; Minister for Commorce and Marine, Mr A. Morris; Minister for Railways, Mr F. Brown; Minister for Defence, Mr C. Roadley; Minister for Education, Rev. F. B. Dobson ; Minister for Public Health, Mr P. Boyd; Postmaster-General, Mr W. J. A. Moore ; Minister for Labour, Mr G. Blake; Minister for Native Affairs, Mr P. H. Comrie. The Prime Minister was cordially congratulated by Mr AUan, leader of the Opposition, upon his choice of Ministers.
The Governor's Speech forecasted the resumption of certain lands for use in crop production to provide foodstuffs for the British army, the creation of £3,000,000 of paper money annually, to bo redeemed later on, to meet the present war crisis, the abolition ot the Upper House, the establishment of a small arms factory so as to strengthen colonial defences, and other measures. Mrs Wily made a good speech in moving the Addvess-in-lieply, which was seconded by Mrs Eames. The leader of the Opposition said the war measures would not be oppofed. Fourteen or fifteen members took part in the debate, and an enjoyable and instructive time was spent. It was arranged that the Union should sit twice during September, at the end of which month the session will close as originally intended.
