PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS MASQUERADE BALL.

Jhi Main and Fancy IJr.ss Masquerade ball by Mr S. Bjrrkall took place in the Waiuku hall last lhurtday evening, and passed off very tuccessfully. About 35 couples took part in the function, which proved of a most enjoyable character. Must of the lady dancers were in fancy diess, but few of the mile dancers dtessid out of the ordinary. The ladies, however, had gone to a goid dial of trouble in preparing for ttie function, and their vaiitd costumes made an attiactive display. Few ot the dancers took tt.e uppurtunity of hiJng their id.-ntity until the supper interval, masks riot being in general favour. The hall had b<.en decorated with greenery, etc., ammg which a large Union Jack conspicuously figured. Music was supplied by Messrs T. Rowe and Toig (Auckland, and was of a first-class oraer, being highly appreciated. Messrs />. S. Barriball and H. S. Limmer carried out the duties of M.'sC. very efficiently. The supper provided wos of an appet sing nature. There waa only one regrettable feature to mar the general enjoyment of all present, which was that there was an insufficient number

of male dancers to keep all the ladits with dancing partners. Among those who were present in character and other representation costumes were: —Miss Perry, Gipsy Fortune Teller; Mrs Webster, Oriental; Miss Currie, Dutch Girl; kiss Kossiter, Stars and Stripes; Miss E. Rossiter, Crimson Rambler; Mrs Brown, Billiards; Miss Muir, Folly; Mrs H. Jamec, Bridge; Miss Sedgwick, Powder and Patches; Miss Harris, Bridge; Miss Ardereon, Fortune Teller; Mies M. Flavel, Maori Chitftaincss; Hiss Greenhead, Ivy; Mrs Allen, Draughts; Miss Weston, Queen of Hearts; Miss L. Hickey, t igbt; Miss Poultrey, Stars ard Stripes; Miss Grimmer, lango Dancer; A)iss N. Grimmer, Spriag; Miss McGregor, Schoolgirl; Mr Webster, Tennis; Mr S. Waters Cowboy; Mr Ridley, Darkie; Mr A, AlLn, Draughts; Mr Codlin, Clown. Other ladits present were: Mis* E. Sedgwick, creme silk; Mrs Hutchinson, cream satio with overskirt Eidlewi3s lace; Miss Vincent, white satin, ninon overdress; Miss May, creme silk: Miss Mearnß, creme Bilk; Miss j. Weston, white Eilk; and others in attendance were Miss Lockie, Mrs Len Barriball, Miss May, Misses Miller and Miss Hickey.
