WAIUKU.
The Women's Christian Temperance Union met on Wednesday,
.August 13th, in the Public hall. After transacting the business part of the meeting, the ladies adjourned to the residence of Mrs J. Copeland to make a presentation to Mrs E. Williams, a member of the W.C.f.U., who is leaving the district. Mr Cable, Methodist minister, gave a short address thanking Mis Williams for her help and kindness in all church work, and then called on Mrs W. L. Wes', ss presid.nt of the W.C.T.U , to make the presentation of a swee s dish to MrsWilliams from that society. The Children's "Happy Hour" also contribute towards the gift. Afternoon tea was provided and the p-.oceediops terminated with the singing of "Auld Lang Svne." At a meeting cf Temperance workers held in ths Parish hall committee room there was a good attendance. Mr J. D. Chalmers was in the chair. It was decided to form a Waiuku branch of the No-Licenss League. Mr W. A. Porter addressed the meetirg and explaired how he had been requested by the Franklin LeagU3 to taka up the organising wotk during the forthcoming campaign in his eld district. The church to which he belonged at Ngaruawahia had agreed to lclease him from duty for the work. It was decideJ to appoint Mr Porter, and the following were elected officers:—President, Mr J. D. Chalmers; vice-presidents, Rev. Vaughan, Rev. Barr, Rev. Cable, and Mr D. Haye9, Mes. J ames W. West, Cable Hosking and J. Williams; secretary ard treasurer, Mr A. King. Telegrams were ordered to be sent to the Right Hon. the Premier and! Sir Joseph Ward thankiug them for supporting the 55 per cent, in the Licensing Bill.
