EUCHRE AND DANCE,
The fortnightly euchre party and dance was held in the hsll 01 Tr.u sday night, 6th August, and was well a't.nded. 'J he ri.st pize winners were Mis J. Townsend aid Mr A. Townsend. The rriror prizes fell to Mrs R. Wootten and Mr A. Ingram. MfIUNGATAWHIRI ROaD BOAKU.
The ordinary meeting of the Maungatawhiri Road Board was held on Saturday; present-Messrs H. Lees, A. J. Cocmbe, G. T. Proude and the cleik. Mr Proude was voted to the chair pro (em. It was decided to strike a farthing rate at next meeting, to be held September sth. The clerk was instructed to write to the engineer-in-charge of the lailway works at Pokeno seking him to push on thi work of filling in at the crossing in C'ame/oa street. OLD SETTLER'S DEATH.
One mora of the old and respited Bombayites pa : sed ever to the great majority on Saturday night, August Bth, ir. tha person of Mr W. Landon, one of the original Boor bay settlers. He leaves a widow and a grown up family of two daughters and six eons to mourn their lo?s. The funeral took place on Tuesday at the Church of England cemetery, and was largely attended by the settlers in this and surruunding districts to pay the last t.ibute of re.pect to the departed and the torrowirg family. A large number ot wreaths and floral emblems were received. The Rev. E. H. Wyatt conducted the turial service.
