OVERHEAD BRIDGE.

A Tuakau Petition. The Rival Sites. We have receive 1 from Mr J. C. Dr. muosi a copy ot the petition which is to be forwarded to the Speaker and members of ths House of Kepresentatives, in favour of f.n overhead traffic bridge on the main road crossing at Tuakau. Mr Drum go»l, in a note dated July s?lst, states thai soms 180 residents have already signed the pstition. Mr F. Hyde's name heads the !i■ t. This matter of the rival sites for overheading was referred to in cur issue of the 21st intt. lha petition leads:— "The humblj petition (f the undersigned residents of Tuikau, in the provincial district of Auckland, and of others resident in the bourhocd or otherwise interested in the progress of the district, showetb as follows: — "1. That your petitioners frequently use ihe main road leading from Tuakau on the south towards Harrisville on the AucklandWellington Main Trunk railway. "2 That the train read crossing over the said railway at Tuakau station and the main road for some chains on either side ot the railway is used by everyone in the district, and is the most important public thoroughfare in the district, and that your petitioners are interested in maintaining and improving the said crossing and approaches thereto. "3. That the remarkable progress of the district with the consequent increase of traffic of all kinds, and especially the fact that all the stock raised un the eouth side of the Wfiikato must be driven across the railway line, have row rendered it highly desirable ard necessary not only for the convenience, but Jalsb for the safety of the public that an overhead traffic bridge should be erected across ths railway at this point of the main road. "4. That your petitioners have alwajs strenuously-and successfully—opposed several previous attempts to divert the traffic from this part of the main road, which is the natural and direct route for this traffic, and that they are strongly of upmion that the main road crossing is not only the least expensive site for a traffic bridge, but that it is by far the most convenient site for all persons who use the roads in this district.

"Your petitioners therefore pray that a sufficient sum of money be placed on the Estimates to enable an overhead traffic bridjjre to be erected on the Tuakau-Uarriaville main road."
