FRANKLIN A. & P. SOCIETY
"He nothing extenuate, nor let down aught in malice."
The past financial year, which closed on June 30th, has teen a momentous one in the history ot the Franklin A. and P. Society. During the period the purchase of the rew showgrounds has eventuated and the initial steps been taken towards putting in order the property. The progressive spirit which inspired the change of grounds has actuated the committee in their management of affairs during the year. The prize money was increased, and as a consequence the Society found that it had to pay £lB2 more to prize winners than at the previous year's show. 01 the approval of the committee's actions by the members we have no doubt. But it is not to the past we wish to refer so much as to the future. The year commenced this month will be a trying one for the Society. The committee will be confronted with the laying out of the new grounds, and many other detailb. It will be a year of organisation, of the anticipation of requirements, of the mastery of petty details—in short a year of hard work. We have every faith in the Society's ability to cope with the taek confronting it and wc are confident that the progressive spirit that has dominated the policy of the past two years will continue in the future. We hope that the members realising the task the Society has in front ot it will attend the annual meeting on Thursday afternoon, and by their support show the officers and committee elected at that meeting that they are the executive of a "live" society. Nothing gives any committee so much satisfaction or gives it heart to deal with the most difficult problem as knowing that the members are keen on the advancement of the society and prepared to assist. In addition to the election of officers the members will have to consider at the annual meeting tha motion that hßs been tabled to increase thfl number of the General Committee. This year th-2 committee will of necessity find a great amount of work thrown on its shoulders and an increase in the number seems to us desirable.
