Committee Meeting.
A committee meeting of the Franklin A. and P. Society was hell on the new show grounds on July 2nd, when tho following members were present: Messrs J. Wylie (president), D. E. Hamilton, C. K. awrio, A. B. Barter, E. G. Phillipps, J. Kennelly and T. S. Shipherd ( PRILL SHED. A letter was received from the Military Headquarters, Wellington, stating that the Department did not care to build drill sheds on leasehold property, and that in similar cases A. and P. Societies had vested an acre of their property in the Crown. After discussion it was resolved that the matter be deferred until the Society's delegate to the A. & P. Societies' Conference visits Wellington, when he can call on'the member for the district regarding the matter. LATIMEE ESTATE.
Mr Barter reported that he had been informed by Mr Kalman that the Latimer estate could not be sold for the price fixed, viz., £7O per acre, but he thought if it was reduced to £6O or £65 it might enable them to quit tho property, which at present was not bringing in any income.
The committee agreed not to oppose the sale at the price mentioned.
EAILWAY SECTION.
The president stated that he had secured one section at the sale of tho railway sections at a yearly rental of £ls. This section, which was ou the main street, would be a most convenient sito for the Society's office. The president's action was confirmed.
DEAINING CONTRACT. Tho president reported that the draining contractor bad finished, and that tho job had been completed iu a very satisfactory manner. As a great deal of timber had been met in a number of the drains, tho contractor was making very little out of the work, and tho Ground Commit-too had allowod a slight increase in price. It was agreed to supply 12 slightly damaged 12in pipes and to allow an extra £1 in cash. Action endorsed.
IMPROVING THE GROUNDS. Tbo members present made a general survey of thu now grounds, and it was resolved the president and ltotli vice-presidents bo a sub-com-mittee to arrango for necessary troo 2>lanting, and that it be a recommendation to thorn that Mr Allan's services be secured for expert advice, and that trees required lie secured from Mr Allan. Grazing lights were discussed and the matter was left to the president and secretary to arrange. GENERAL.
With regard to alteration of road boundaries at the old ground on account of re-survey of adjoining properties, it was agreed to appoint the president as a delegate to confer with other property owners likely to bo affected.
The president and vice-presidents were instructed to arrange tor an overdraft with the bank to carry out improvements on the new shew grounds. SALE OF COTTAGE.
It was decided that the Society's solicitor bo consulted ro the sale of the cottage on the section known as "Twidlcs," and that if the right-of-way from Hall street to the station can be extinguished, the section and cottage be sold for not less than £■3o.
