The new appointments to the Legislative Council will not be announced until next week. These appointments are necessary to bring the Council to about its normal strength and also to enable the Government to pass the Bill for the reform of the Upper Chamber. The Council at present consists of only 30 members, two of whom, Messrs Jcnkinson and Rigg, are due to retire by effluxion of time on June 30th. During the recess the terms of Li members expired, but of these, two. Messrs J. T. Paul and J. Barry, were reappointed by the Government. The Bill providing for an elective Council will ho intro duced in that Chamber early in the session.
