Mr W. Roulston returned to Pukekolio last evening. Mr .T. K. Ledger, surveyor of Pukekolie, lias received word that his brother, Mr C. K. Ledger, has been appointed British \ ice-Consul at New York. The Committee of the Liwrie Testimonial ask us to state that any subscriber to the testimonial win has not received a ticket to the presentation on Tuesday night is requested to at once conmunicate with the secretary, Kev. F. 13. Dobson.
At the meeting of tho Pukekolie branch of the Bible iu Schools League, held ou Tuesday, tho secretary was instructed to convey to tho Prime Minister their hearty congratulations upon the introduction of tho Referendum Bill so early iu the session, and to express their hope that the Bill will be passed without material alteration.
A social gathering was held in connection with St. Andrew's Church in tho Oddfellows' hall on Wednesday evening. The opportunity was taken of presenting Mrs Pilgrim with a handsome sterling silver rose bowl as a mark of the Church's appreciation of the splendid work Mrs Pilgrim had done in conducting the choir and assisting in the work of tho church during the last four years. Mr and Mrs Pilgrim have leased tlnir home in Pukekolie and intend in future to reside in Auckland. To the merriment of his fellow councillors of ths Pukekohe borough it is related ttiat tight horses belo;girg to a member of the Pound Committee plajed their owner a rather shabby trick the other day. They si rayed along to the pound and upsn the pound-keeper opening the gate the animals obligingly impounded themselve?. It involved the expenditure rf a couple of " pounds " to liberate the horses which, like faithful animals, had apparently besn looking for their master, who-e committee duties often take him to the public pound.
The half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Pukekohe Lodge, No 8063. Manchester Unity Oddfellows, was hold on Tuesday night, Bro. J. R. Keith, N.G., presiding over a large attendance ol members. Five new members wero initiated, and the increase for tlio past term was a lecord <>ne. The oflicers for the next half year wero duly elected and installed as follows :—Bros. J. 11. Keith, G.M. : T. Wilcox, N.G. ; W. W. Wylie, E.S.N.G. : W. Bloxham, I-S.N.Cr. ; S. Harper, V.G. ; D. Blake, R.S.Y.G. : A. Horno. L.S.Y.G. : G. Blake, Guardian ; Bro. Baird, Elec. Sec. ; Bio. Thompson, Warden and Bro. S. W. Mill?, I'.G, Treasurer. It was decided that a benefit picture show for a widow be held on '.'lst July, and the annual dinner on r»th August. Much of tho success of the Lodge is due to the efforts of Bro. Gordon Hovcy, permanent secretary, and Bro. J. 11. Keith, late N.G.
