LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The Harrisville School Committee is to be consulted with regard to the appointment of Mi?s A. E. Miochin as assistant. A Maori boy at Otorohanga recently picked up a detonator, which exploded and blew off tbreo of his fingers. At the last meeting of the Auckland Education Board an allegation was made that Maori children had been excluded from the Raglan school. The matter was referred to the headmaster to report. The subject at the Farmers' Class at the Pukekohe school on Thursday night was " Pruning." On account of the winter holiday the class will not he held next Thursday. Miss M. A. MeConaughy has received an appointment as assistant at Te Aroha. It is not yet known when Miss McCouaughy will leave Pukekohe District High, at which school she has boon teaching lor some time.

Extras wero played by Mioses Blake and Miluo and Mr J. Latta. On the .'lst inst. the New Zealand Dairy Association, Ltd , paid out to its suppliers £I4,GGI 2s ->d. This covered a28,0931bs of butterfat supplied during the month of May. The amount of butter-fat received during the corresponding month of last year was 21!,-12Slbs thus the increase for the month was m,."><).)ib. News from InvcrcWgill states that the present season's cheese trade to London and West of England ports from Southland has been most satisfactory, showing roughly an advance of 6UOO crates compared with last season's figures. A total of 80,564 crates was exported, of which 74,385 crates we?t to 1 ondon, nnd 12.17;' crates to tho' West of England.
