Mrs Milna hod also helped in a practical way by donating prizes. Tha spirit of the lirit meeting had warranted its formation. He thanked then for ele'tiuj; him as the first president. He was s-.rry the associate membership was not more widely availed of. Ttia fee for a-aocintes was only 2i 6d, and they had almost 1 the same advantages as members. ' The Society wanted the young people • to coinmer.ee now to cultivate u » tisLo for horticulture. ' Mr Allan moved the adoption of the rcpirt and balance sheet,*ns read. The way in which the Society ha.] negotiated obstacles , was a happy auguiy for the future. He thought success was mainly dua to the president's haul work. Mr Driver seconded.
The president, iti reply, said ho could not accept Mr Allan's rcmarkß ns his due. .Success had been brought about by the support the committee hud pivcn him, nn.l if the same commitc were elected the Society could not help but be a success.
Mr Masaey was again elected patron subject ta liis approval. Mr Massey had b:en quite willing, but enable through Parliamentary duties, to open the shows and lie had sent a substantial donation. l'residen\ Dr Wake, re-elected.
Messrs Barter and I'ownson were elcclcd vice-prer iJcnta in place of Rev. Nixun and Mr Allmd, who (lid not desire re-election. Mr Simpson continues as ecerctary and treasurer. Committee: Rev. Nixon, Messrs Driver, Allan, Stem bridge, Brown, Hubbard, Cirigor, Askew, and Mis Brown with power to add to their numbers. Notica of alterations to rule 7 and regulation 5 were given. Mr Allan sail h > thought it was time that fie Society should affiliate with the Royal Horticultural Society of England, and also with the National Sweet l'ca Society of England. The fee was a small one. Against that, such alliliation would tend to raise our status, and the sock ties mentioned awarded a silver medal and rytilicalcs a? prizes.— Mr Stembridga seconded. —Carried.
Dr Wake tr.ovcd a vote ot tharks to Mr H. G. K. Mason for his work as auditor.- Carried. Mr Deanc is to be asked to act as auditor for the coming year.
