On behalf of the committee appointed to confer with representatives of thi Town Band, Cr Hubbard ( slid they ha I cone exhaustively into < the question. It was said that the Council being a permanent institution there would be pernvner.t trustees. After discussion it was decided to instruct the foreman to sec that the whfel tyres by-laws he strictly enforced where metal carting is concerned. KINu STREET CROSSINGS.
Cr Pollock reported that the committee thought three crossings should be put down in King streetone at the hotel, onj at the prst office and one at Askew's. The crossings, it was suggested, should he of different nmUriab as the various firms would perhaps give the stuff at reduced rates for demonstration purposes. The crossings ffeulJ cost £6 or £8 each. The report waa adopted. A HAD SPOT. What was described as one of the worst srols in tin borough was referred to uy Cr beatty. Tuis was in Seddon street where the water turned into Tobi l street, making the place in a terrible mess and damaging the metal.
Referred to the Works Committee with power to act. The opinio i was expressed that a drain would have to be cut across Tobin street, and covered ovur in order to get the water into the cohere c channel on the north side. WEST ROAD FOOTPATH.

Referred to the Works Committee with pov?er to act. TWO DANGEROUS BRIDGES. Cr Comrie said that two brides on the Roose-Reyrolck road were dangerous. He moved that ore cf them be replaced with a concrete culvert, casting about £2O, and that the other bridge be repaire). Ihia was carrie" 1 . A GIFT OF SHINGLE. The Auckland Shingle To. a-:ked the Council to accept '■){) yards of material gratis, ia order to test it in road-making. The stuff would be delivered free of charge on the Auckland railway station. Cr Comrie warmly declared in favour of the shingle, which he said was thp best binding material hj: had seen. It was decided to put the ;!0 yards on the road between the hotel and East street bridge. The Mayor said the shingle would cost 8s 6d per yard landed in Pukekohe. On Cr Comrie's mothn, seconded by Cr Hubbard, it was decided to order a scow load of 90 yards of this shingle. Cr Comrie said he would take half the quantity in his part of the borough when there'was still money to be spent. East street, West read .and Harris street were selected as the roads upon which to test the material. 10BIN STREET AGAIN.
Six residents of Tobin street, for whom Mr Cooper acted as spokesman, asked for a footpath. The place at present was "a pond and blackberry patch.'' Mr Cooper ref°rrcd to the great ircrease in rates; he did not mind paying rates but he wanted to see something for his money. J he Mayor said the work had been authorised hut they had not been able to get it done. Mr Cooper rejoined that while there had bien time to do other footpaths—up the hill and half-way out to the 0.-trich farm -there appeared to be no tiim to do Tobin street.
Cr Pollock remarked that it was the duty of property holders to keep the blaekbsrries cut.

Cr MeUough moved, That a pre vious resolution be rescinded and that the channels in Hall street be done in concrete. He pointed out that it vould cost £l7 for timber, whereas £4O for concrete kcrbing would make h permanent job cf it. Cr Hamilton Bccontl-il.
Cm Hubbard and Hurl y supported, the latter remarking that all the approaches to King Street should be uniform in concrete. Cru Conine and Pollock opposed doing the work on the score of expense. Upon being put the motion was carried without dissent on the understanding that th» work be done in three months time, when the new rates come in. THE POUND. \V. 11. Trait, poundkeepcr, wrote saying that owing to the smallncss of the pound the cattle could not be accommodated, He thought the enclosure should be enlarged.
