MAUKU.

FARMERS' UNION. The monthly meeting of the Mauku branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Monday, Ist inst. The president, Mr T. A. Kemp, occupied the chair. The delegates who attended the provincial conference, Messrß M. Crispe and E. C. Cuff, submitted a lengthy report on the proceedings, and were accorded a hearty vote of (baiks.

Owing to having taken up the position of manager of the Trading and Indenting Association, Mr T. A. Kemp handed in his resignation as president. The loss to the branch was received with regret, but numbers were unanimously of opinion that the wcrk it" the Union generally would be greatly benefitted by Mr Kemp's expert advice and assistance in Auckland.

On the motion of Mr E. C. CufL, seconded by Mr Pleydell, Mr J. B. Goldsworthy was elected president for the remainder of the term. Members expressed the opinion that the various concerns that he was chairman of, and the successful way he had carried out his duties, particularly fitted Mr Goldsworthy for the first position of this branch. Mr S. Howe, junr, was elected to thu committee in Mr Goldaworthy's stead. The secretary read and distributed a number of circulars in connection with the special classes for farmers i that are being held ai the District High School, Pukekohe. Members considered this move was an excellent one, but the bad roads and the i very wintry weather that is now I prevailing made it rather much lof an ordeal to attend Pukekohe of i an evening. MAUKU SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS. The additions to the Mauku school are being pushed ahead by Mr J. Hewaon. The rafters are now up and the walls weather-boarded. The new addition will greatly add to the ! appearance of the school, and the j extra space will be greatly appreciated by the teachers as the present I room is in a sadly overcrowded 1 state.
