FRANKLIN LICENSING COMMITTEE.

Annual Meeting.

The annual meeting of the Franklin Licensing Committee was held on Thursday, there being present: Messrs F. V. Frazer, S.M., (chairman), J. L). Chalmers, J. Schlaepfer, W. Richardson, C. Motion and C. K. Lawrie. •

Prior to the minutes being read the chairman referred to the death of their collesgue, Mr P. J. McGoverr. For many yeais the late Mr McGovern had been a member of the polica and the experience gained in the force had been of great assistance to the Committee. Personally, he did not know the late Mr McGovern as well as the other members of the Committee and the public, but what he did know was oi a most favourable nature. He would move, That the Committee place on record their regret at the loss they had sustained through Mr McGovern's death, and that the sincere sympathy of the Committee be conveyed to Mrs Mcuovern and family. This was agieed to.

After the minutes had been confirmed the chairman extended a welcome to Mr Lawrie. KENEWALS AND NEW LICENSES.

Renewals were granted to R. Porter (Globe Hotel, Papakura), A. C. Waterman (Papakura Hotel), C. G. Taylor (Railway Hotel, Drury), E. Smith' (Bay View, Miranda), R T. Reid (Kentish Hotel, Waiuku, subject to a few minor improvements being effected.) New licenses to J. A. Raynes (Marine Hotel, Howick), and C. Clarke (Pukekoho Hotel). THE MAUKU HOTEL. There was some disonsion as to whether the Mauku hotel should have an accommodation or a publican's license.

Mr Endean, who arpeared for the license?, urged that the matter of a publican's license should be held over until after the election. On the motion of Mr Chalmers, seconded by Mr C. Motion, it was decided to issue an accommodation license and to fix the license fee at £2O.

Prior to the meeting closing, the chairman said it wss pleasing to be able to record that with ore trivial exception (which could hardly be considered as arising out of a hotel) not a single case had been brought before the Court for a breach of the Licensing Act. No doubt the conduct of the houses throughout the district had been very good.
