ATTACKED BY A BULL.

Waipipi Settler Has a Narrow Escape.

The Animal Destroyed.

A very narrow escape from being gored to death was experienced one day last week at Mr H. Harvey's place, Wharf road. Mr Harvey went out to a paddock to fetch in a straying cow. In the game enclosure there was a Jersey bull running. When taking the cow away Mr Harvev had his back turned to the bull and the vicious animal, without the slightest warning, charged him and got him down on the ground and gave him a very bad goring. Fortunately the bull was dehorned, the wounds not being quite healed up, and while lying on his back fighting for dear life, Mr Harvey gave the brute a blow on its tender horn. This caused it to draw which gave Mr Harvey a chance to roll away under the fence. Mrs Harvey, hearing the commotion and the shouts for help, rushed out with the gun and cartridges. Mr Harvey, just being able to bold the gun, let the brute have the contents of two barrels which drove him off. Or Howden was rung up and arrived in quick tim 3. He found Mr Harvey very much knocked about and ordered him to stop in bed for ten days. I'he bull was destroyed next day. Some few weeks previous to this the bull had attacked Mr Harvey and got him down, the brute then having very sharp horns. It was fortunate that Mrs Harvey was near and saw what was taking place on that occasion. With great presence of mind and pluck she rushed at the bull and thrust a fork into it and drove it off.
