Patumahoe Post Office.
[TO THE EDITOR"] Sir,—There appears to be some feeling in part of the Mauku district aghast the movement to obtain a departmental Post Office at Patumatioe I understand that this is due to a rumour that the movement aims also at the removal of the West Mayku Post Office, and that the cloning of the Mauku office was made a condition in the donation of the site for the Patumahoe office. to those people acquainted with the working of the Postal Department this absurd rumour will be treated as rumours generally deserve, but to those who are not so acquainted I wish to say that no such condition was ever mentioned or thought of when the site for the Patumahoe office was offered to the Department. Myself and those working with me for an independent departmental office for Patumahoe are actuated solely by a desire to benefit this district, and increase the public convenience; but with no desire whatever to benefit ourselves at the expense and inconvenience of our neighbours, and I feel satisfied that no section of the people of this district will go out of the way to oppose what must be recognised by all fair-minded people as such a public necessity.—l am, etc., J. HENK*, Postmaster, Patumahoe,
