The annual meeting of the Pukekohe Golf Club is being held tonight. The Rugby football season opens in Pukekohe on Saturday when the City and Bill clubs meet on the Domain. A meeting of trie Pukekohe branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union will be held on Saturday night in the Borough Council Chambers to discuss remits to be forwarded to the Provincial Conterence. The pictorial adapation from Mis Henry Wooclb' famous novel "East Lynne" will be screened at the Premier Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday next. The box plan is now open at the Bookery.* Papa creek, on the Waikato at Aka Aka, was t i,e scene of some animated shooting on the morning of the Ist ir.st.. when a party of four—Messrs R. Higginson, J. Gribble, Sedgwick and Boyd—bagged 60 ducks before lunch time.
Oa Monday night Mr P. C. Webb, M.P. for Grey, and Mrs Donaldßon, the ladiss' organiser, will give a political address on behalf of the Social Democrats in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe. A free public demonstration of cookery will be given at the Pukekohe Technical School on Monday evening at 7 o'clock, when Miss Griffiths, the instructress, will demonstrate how to prepare a dinner. On the same evening, in the adjoining worn, the boys' woodwork class will be thrown open to the public to see the very useful training and work done in this class.
The official opening of St. Patrick's Presbytery, P*ukekohe, was celebrated on Sunday afternoon bv his Lordship, Bishop Cleary. A full report of the function, together with a photographic view of his Lordship speaking at the ceremony, and of the attendant crowd, will appear in Friday's "Times." Extra copies required should be ordered in advance.
On Sunday the Pukekohe Fire ] Brigade held a church parade acd iit speaks well for the interest ; taken in the Brigade by the fire- ; men that every member was present. The Brigade fell in at the Borough Council chambers and marched to the Presbyterian Church. The service was conducted by the Rev. S. Nixon who preached an appropriate sermon. At the conclusion of the service the Brigade marched back to the Council chambers. A meeting of the Pukekohe Bowling Club committee was held on Friday at the office of the secretary 'Mr F. E. Simpsor?); present—Messrs A. B. Barter, president in the chair, F. Perkins, K. J. Barnes, H. Graham, A. Grittor and Oi Wake. Consideration was made of the finances and it was shown that after paying all accounts and collecting a refreshment levy there would be about £8 in haid. It was decided to properly top-'dreos the green, Mr Hill, of Ponsonby Bowling Club, to be asked to do the work. When this is completed there will be" a debit balance and the committee expressed the hope that fees and levy due should be paid promptly.
