MAYORAL ELECTION.
" W'e nothing extenuate, nor id down auoht in malice."
From the advertisements appearing in our business space it will be seen that both the Mayor and his opponent are to take the platform in connection with the forthcoming Mayoral olection. Mr Patterson forced the pace by announcing that he would speak on Monday night. That is the only suitable evening available before polling day, but the Mayor decided, rather than clash with Mr Patterson's meeting, to give his address on Tuesday night. This, of course, will give Mr Patterson the advantago of having his speech reported, although on the other hand the Mayor will have the advantage of reply. Matters have certainly livened up since our notes on page 1 of this issue were written aud there is promise of a hot and interesting tight on Monday and Tuesday. We do not think that Mr Patterson bus any chance of winning the election, but it will nevertheless be interesting to hear the speeches of the candidates.
