MAUKU.
CRICKET. Ih3 Mauku Cricket Club has mads a practise of taking a tour every EaUer, and this Year a trip was mad* to Northern Wairoa. Flayers report that (ha visit was a must enjoyable cue and the royal treatment they received at the hands of the Northern Wairoa clubs will never be forgotten. The only complaint that was heard was on tne boat and as Mauku is essentially an inland "town" the cricketers have not become good sailors. The president of the Northern Association, Mr H. Hockin, met the players at Aratspu and did all in bis power to make the trip a memorable one. Three matches were played, two being lost and one won, but it is satisfactory to note that it was the representative match that was won, Mauku being determined to pull off the principal event. On Sunday a trip was taken from Dargaville up the Wairoa river in 'Mr Reister'B launch, and after a run of several miles 'a larding was made and the party walked across to the big orchard where grapes and apples wera served in abundance. A match had been arranged for Tuesday, but as several members wished to get back for the farmers' picnic at Kuakura it had to be abandoned. The fatted turkeys that were promised if this last match had been played caused many a special to wish be hud stayed in the hospitable northern territory. Mr E. C. Cuff acted as a capable manager for the Mauku eleven. Following are the best average scoies for the three matces Batting: W. Uazeley, total runs 112, average 37.3; W. G. Pleydell, 83, 20.7; T. A.
