The tender of The Bookery, for a supply of new books for the Pukekohe Library, has been accepted by the Committee.

The Prime Minister (Mr Massey) was a visitor to Pukekohe yesterday. He went through Waiuku to Awhitu at which latter place Mr Massey delivered a speech last uight. To-day Mr Massey returned and this afternoon he was to receive several deputations in Pukekohe.

The annual meeting of the Pukekohe Rugby Union will be held in the commercial room oi the Pukekohe Hotel on Friday. April 24th, at 8 p.m. The business of the meeting will be to receive the report and balance sheet, to elect officers and to discuss arrangements for the coming season. The final in the novice handicap competition was played on the Pukekohe bowling green this week, Baker (handicap 8), beating Potter (scratch) by 14 to 8. In the semi-finals of the handicap singles Eames 'scratch) won from Lawrie (handicap 3) by two points. Wright (o) will play Eames in the final. At the Pukekohe Gun Club's shoot on Saturday the first six-birds' sweepstakes was divided by F. Mouldey and J. Wright, who tied. In the second. W. Wilson won with .1. Wright second. A practice 10 bird match was won by J. Fausett, F. Mouldey second and J. Blake third. In this event all fired off the 12 yards mark. J. Fausett won the final six-bird event, with A. P. Daysh second and W. Wilson third. W. F. Johns won the three-bird sweepstakes with J. Blake second.

Two fresh candidates have now publicly announced themselves as candidates for the two vacancies on the Pukekohe Borough Council. These are Mr F. Hubbard and Mr R. F. McGough. Mr Hubbard was formerly a member of the Te Aroha Borough Council, and has had many years of municipal experience. Mr McGough is new to public life, but he is very well known as a sterling settler and is a big ratepayer upon property both inside and outside the proposed drainage area. Advertisements appear elsewhere in this issue.

The long list of adjourned cases Franklin County Council versus various defaulting ratepayers was again called on at the Magistrate's Court, Pukekohe, yesterday. Mr Hanna, for the County Council, announced that settlements has been arrived at with Mr Dromgool and Mr Mason. In these cases the jurisdiction of the Court had been successfully challenged on account of a defect in the proceedings. A number of cases had been settled by paying the amounts without costs: in others judgment was accepted. In Mr Mason's three successful cases costs amounting to £3 3s were awarded. The question of costs to Mr Dromgool was undecided and may be brought before the Magistrate again. Mrs Dobson gave an " At Home " at the vicarage on Tuesday afternoon to enable her friends to meet her sister, Mrs Parsons. During the afternoon lawn tennis was indulged in and after refreshments, Mrs Parsons began a pleasing entertainment with her song

"Hush-a-bye." Mrs Russell followed with " The Swallows" and Miss Morris with " Tatters." A pianoforte solo "An den Fruhling " by Miss F. Dobson was much appreciated by the company, a 9 also was the duet "Sing me to Sleep" by Mr and Mra Parsons. Miss F. Dobson and Mrs Parsons acted as accompanists. Among theguests were Misses A. and N.
