METHODIST CHURCH.
Quarterly Meeting. The Franklin Methodist circuit juarterly meeting was held in the Cukekohe Church on Wednesday, April 2nd, uud was well attended. The superintendent minister, Rev. E. P. Blamires, presided. Mr T. G. Usher read his i cognation of the office of Senior Circuit Steward and the meeting roluctantly accepted the same, Appropriate and feeling reference was mndo to lh' long and faithful service to the circuit (approximating ;il) years as circuit steward and to the cause of Methodism throughout the Dominion rendered by Mr Usher so unselfishly and so devotedly. The Circuit Ministers and most of those present bore eloquent testimony to the value of Mr Usher's services and to the happy and helpful association they had enjoyed with him in carrying on the work of the circuit.
Mr J. Pilkiugton, on the nomination of the Eev. E. I'. Blamires and Mr T. G. Usher, was appointed senior circuit steward and Mr F. ■Souster, nominated by the Rev. Blamires and Mr >S. Allison, was appointed junior circuit steward. The membership for the circuit was reported as 217 (since increased by o), 23 junior members, catechumens 08. The balance sheet showed a credit of £9 !3s lid, a debit balance of £42 Ha 8d having been cloared during tho quarter.
It was decided to make the foreign, missionary collections throughout tho circuit during the current quartor.
Satisfactory reports were made as to tho state of the Sun lav school.
Mr C. E. West, delegate for the circuit to the conference recently hold in Dunedin, reported upon the result of his visit, and referring to the appointment of a probationer to Waiuku said that in the name of the circuit ho had undortaken that a fully-ordained minister would be taken iu two yea's' tim^ —A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr West for his services as delegate and for his generosity iu defraying the expenses attached to the vw'.t. The best thinks of the quarterly meeting were extended s t<> the retiring ministeis for services faithfully and energetically rendered. It was reported that the incoming superintendent ministor would anivo on April 11th. The meeting desired the circuit steward to write Mr J. R. McElwain, society steward at Glenbrook, conveying the of the mwting for a good voyage to the Old Country and a safe return. Mr Arnold Matthews was appointed a society steward at Buckland. At the close of the meeting tea waa served by the members of the Ladies' Guild and heartily appreciated.
