ONEWHERO TELEPHONES.

Meeting of Association.

The annual general meeting of the Onewhero Telephone Association was held in the Onewhero hall on April 4th. ibere were eighteen members present. Owing to ttie president, Mr J. C. S. Lawson, J.P., having sent in his resignation duiing the year, the chair was occupied by tha vicepresident, Mr G. Cole-Baker, who voiced on his own and the Association's behalf the regret he knew they all felt at Mr Lawson's resignation.

The secretary read the notice concerning the meeting after which the chairman's report and the balance sheet were unenimou:ly adapted. The chairman said that the records now showed a membership of 35; 30 instruments had been installed, operating over a wide range of country, there being considerably over 50 miles of wire. The accounts showed a small credit balance which was considered satisfactory as the Association is not run for pecuniary gain.

A special motion of Mr C. E. Walters, dealing with an alteration of the rules regarding the admission of new members, was lost by one vote and it was decided, there being only a bars majority present, that the matter be recosidered at a future special meeting of the Association, id the meantime no new members to be admitted. Attention was drawn to the unsatisfactory state of various portions of the line, partly caused by the unprecedented gales experienced through the surnmtr, and partly by the weight of the extra wires which have recently been put on. It was therefore decidel that heavier poles be obtained for some of the anglea where the present pules are overweighted and the line put in a thoroughly efficient state of repair as soon as material and lahour could be obtained, and thereby obviate the inconvenience and annoyance caused by the incessant entanglement of line?. To meet the expenditure an interim levy of £1 per member was made, and also a levy of £1 per member for operator's fee. A committee was appointed who, in addition to committee work, will supervise and arrange for all work and repairs. The mles'of the Association provide for two committeemen from each branch line, and the following members were elected:— Messrs E. J. Attcwell, D. A. Moore, H. Dyer, M. H. Cox, A. R. Watson, B. Cole-Baker, G. Hunter, C. E. Walter and J. H. Eyre. Mr G Cole-Baker was elected president and Mr Charles E. Walter vice-presideit.

A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
