The Department for Internal Affairs has been busy supplying food for the trout in the Fotorua Lake ar.d a atarf has been at work netting shrimps at Mercer and railing them to Kotoiua, where they have been liberated. Up to the present it is estimated that about 160 cans, each holding about 2000 shrimps, have bean secured. The Department also obtained from Mercer recently 20 cans of a small fish known as toitoi. These arc being used for experimental purposes in the Government gardens in connection with the work of feeding the trout. In consequence ci the food becoming scarce in the Taupo Lake the Department has also decided to supply that lake with small fish, which will be secured from the Wajkato river at Mercer.
