Too Many Shows.
i TO THE EDITOR.!
Sir,—A week or twn ago I read In your paper that the peopln of Waiuku were talking nh:ut the possibility of starling on sgricultural show on their own. Do you think that would bo wise? There are so many poky little shows held in New Zealand that they really help to spoil the bigger fixtures. Such shows as Makatana, Te Aroha, Helensville and the like (only to mention a few North Island examples, are hardly worth going to, and as they are local shows of the poorest type they only give a lot of work without an; corresponding benefits. There need be no jealousy about the Franklin Show; it belongs just as much to Waiuku as it does to Pukekoh", although it does happen to be held in the latter village. At present wc have a lot of tin-pot sports m°etings held throughout the district and none uf them do more than scratch cut an existence. Would it not be uettcr to have one or two really representative meetings giving gcod prizes and attracting the best competitors? if the Franklin Show is to be made the biggest show in the Auckland provjneo (as 1 think I hive heard Un Editor of the "Times" predict) then we will want every part of Franklin to pull shoulder to shoulder lor that end, and not go wasting our forces by splitting up and pulling against each other.- I am etc., MaUKU.
