DUNBAR BENEFIT CONCERT.
The above benefit concert to the widow and child of the late Bro. C. V. Uunbar, of the Loyal Pukekohe Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., took place last evening in the Premier hall, Pukekohe.
Owing to the indisposition of a member of the instrumental quartette the first item on the programme wm cot given. Miss Clarke, however, kindly came to t*ie committee's assistance with a pianoforte eolu, "Hungarian Dance." Songs and encores were given by Miss Gra n e Smith, Miss Bagnall, Messrs A. D. Young, W. Poppleton, T. Wslker, G. Morgon and W. Jones. Mrs B. Andrew delighted the audience with a violin solo, "The Harp that once," and as an encore gave "11 Bacio." Mr F. J. Mountjoy played a clarionet solo, "Annie Laurie," and lust but not least was "Ihe Boys of the Old Brigade" item from the Pukekohe Quattette (Messrs G. Blake, J. Roulston, W. Jones and A. Young), which was deservedly encored.
The Mayor, Mr C. K. Lawrie, who presided, briefly Btated the reason why the concert was being held, and heartily thanked the Excelsior Pukekohe Lodge for their very kind and able assistance, particularly mentioning Bro. W, Jones, who had worked so hard for them. He also thanked Miss Clarke for coming to their aid, and complimented Mi?a Penman on her fine work as accompanist. To give one an idea of the good work that Ihe Lodges quietly doing, he instanced tbe fact that £9O had been paid in benefits to Bro. and Mrs Dunbar, and in addition 24 weeks' free hospital treatment. He had pleasure in reporting, allowing for incomplete returns, that the concert had realise! £25 with approximate expenses of £5. leaving a balance uf £2O to be handed to Mrs Dunbar. In connection with this he had to thank Mr Cuady for a substantial donation, an anonymous friend for the sum of £l, and the attendant firemen for refunding their fees to help the cause. His Worship urged all young men to become Oddfellows, which was a splendid institution to belong to. In concluding, he eulogised the work done by Messrs Wilkinson and Keitn and heartily thanked all those who had kindly supported the movement. The second concert, which is to be followed by a dance, takes place in tbe Buckland hall ou Thursday next, 12th Match.
