AT THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Fortnightly Meeting. There were present at Wednesday night's mee'.in;: The Mayor (Mr C. K. Laurie), Crs Hamilton, Pollock, Hurley, Bcatty ar.d Comrie. THE WAIUKU RAILWAY. Cr Comrie considered the time was opportune to apply ti have the train from Waiuku run into Pukekoho. It would certainly bo more economical than having a station half-way bctwe:n Paerata and Pukekolic. 112 maved, That the Couniil consider the advisablanesi to make sttong representations on the subject. Cr Hamilton seconded tne resolution, which was carried.
It waa not so easy to determine which was the best way to make the representations. A petition was most generally favoured, and Cr Comrie considered it should be sent to Pdtumahoe, Wauku and Waiuku for signatures. He said it was to the interests of these districts *o have the train run into Puktkohe rather than wait at Paerala as the junction.
A resolution ti the foregoing effect was carried and the Mayor, Crs Hamilton and Comrie were appointed a committee to attend to the matter. THE PUNI ROAD.
"We've been so very busy layinß the Waiuku railway that we've bad to time to attend to a report on the Puni road," was the excuse of the Finance Committee for not presenting a report.—"Deffrred," said the Mayor. The Mayor, Crs Comrie and Patterson were appointed a committee to wait on the County Council in respect of a contribution towards the metalling of this road BERRIMAN'S ROAD.
The Mayor said he had received complaints from Messre Motion and Dayeh that Mr Beiriman had done nothing to the ruads leading to their properties They were supposed t3 have been finished by Christmas, but practically nothing hid been done. He thought it wa9 tim 3 they took steps tj force Mr Btrriman's hand. It transpired that in the case of Motion's road a deposit of £l3O had been made. It was resolved that Mr Berriman ba given notice that he must procseJ "immediately with ' Motion's road; and that the Mayor and Town Claik tondolt the Council's solicitors as to the position of payah's road and deal with the matter. SCORIA. The Town Clerk was authorised to procure another 1000 yards of scoria. EAST STREET. It was decided, instead of ripping up the mecal in East street in front of Rouhton's store and raising the road with clay, that scoria to the depth of 15 inches be put on the present metal, the foreman reporting that it would be the cheaper process, though the road would not be raised so high as was contemplated.
"BOOT MONEY." It was decided to request the Fire Brigade to r£nder their accounts for "boot money" quarterly. A FALSE ALARM. 1
A "false alarm" in the proximity of midnight on the 13th irst. causfd four firemen to leave their beds. The Council in their turn received an account for 10s, which they paid.
ROAD ROLLER. 1 The question of securing a rebate of the duty on the road roller was referred to the Finance Committee. The agents advised that the engine was en route for Pukekohe. "What are you going to do about an engine driver/" asked Cr Hurley. The foreman explained there was a man capable of driving an engine in the Council's empby Referred to Cr Ccmrie and the foreman to attend to. ROOSE'S ROA1). The Mayor and Cr Hamilton were appointed to eign the dedication deed of Roose's road, subject to the solicitor's approval. R \TES. It was decided to sue for all rates which had been outstardirg for two years.
