LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A very despicable offence was committed m Pukekohe on Wednesday night when .some person caught one of tho pair of grey ponies which hare carried off so many prizes in the ring for Mr C. Clarke and clipped its tail, spoiling its appearance The perpetrator caught a grey belonging to Mr Peterson, presumably in mistako for the second pony of the pair, and a similar disfigurement was made to its tail. The matter has been placed in the hands of tho police. When the Mounted Special Constables were in camp among numerous other presentations they clubbed together and bought a most comfortable invalid's chair for Joseph Edwards, of Waihi, a veteran of the Doth Eegiment, who went through the Waikato campaign fifty years ago. Unfortunately the old man did not live long to enjoy his gift, his death having occurred a week or two ago. His last request was that tho chair should bo sent to the Veteran's Home, where it will probably long be of service to timobatterod old soldiers.
On Tuesday afternoon MessrsVailo and Sous sold by auction tit their I'ukckoho Oliice the ten acre farm of Mr Dynes, situated on BoresfordPukekoho road. Bidding commenced at £fiO per aero and rapidly advanced to £lO7 at which price it was knocked down to Mr li. Bilkey. Taking into consideration the fact that the buildings were of but little value, that the terms were "cash," and that the farm was in a neglected condition the price is regarded as a high one. But it shows the faith experienced farmers havo in £IOO acre land in I'ukekohc.
