WAIKATO RIVER DISTRICT
Meeting of the Board. A general meeting of the Wai- I kato Kiver Board was held on Saturday at Mercer; present—Messrs "lass (chairman), Gallery, Clephane and Hill. CLEARING THE CREEKS. It was resolved that the Government grants for £350 for clearing willows on the creeks {adjoining the Waikato river be allocated*as follows:—£2so for Oneta and Awsrua creeks, £]()<) tor the Whangnmarioo. THE MAI'NGATAWHIRI STREAM. It was resolved to write to the Minister for Lands and point out that the grants for clearing willows on Maimgatawhiri and other creeks were to be for labour only, so the Board was informed by the land drainage engineer, Mr ihompson, but the Board thought that tcols and explosives ought to be paid for out of the grants. SHIFTING HOUSES. I It was decided to aßk Mr Rsgg what charge he would make to bring | the two houses from luakau to j Mercer. Also reaclved, to let a contract to ! place the houses at the end of the wharf. ABOUT A SUBSIDY. The clerk was instructed to write to the Minister for Lands, asking what subsidy the li.iard would receive on a rate amounting to about £SOO. RENT. It was decided that the chairman should consult a solicitor re the amount owing for hire of punt, tools, etc. THE RATE STRUCK. Mr Hill moved, ai.d Mr Glass seconded: "That a general rate of Id in class A, Jd in class B, and Id in C be struck on all rateable property in the Waikato River Board rating area, such rate to be f:r a period of twelve munths from April Ist, 1914, to March 31st, 1915, th° said rate to be payable in one instalment on the 15th (lay of April, 1914."
