In a subsequent game twelve heads were played between Wright and Lawrie and at that stage Lawrie was leading by 5 point?. In the course of a personal letter from the Prime Minister to the Editor of this papsr the Right Hon. W. F. Mr Massey's many friends throughout this district will be made tincerely glad by his recovery. Four members of the Pukekohe volunteer tire brigade attended the brigades demonstration in Auckland on Friday. They were Foreman Woods, tiremen M. Brown, A. Tawse and L. Egginton. It was intended that two pairs should compete in the two men coupling event, but as there Was not time to complete the competition only one pair, Brown and Tawse, took part. The winning time was 41 seconds. Pukekohe occupied 65 seconds with 4 seconds penalty, total 69. The Royal Commission which the Government has agreed to set up to inquire into the question of the proposed Waitemata - Manukau and Manukau-Waikato canals, and the general matter of the development of Auckland's island waterways will be appointed in the course of a few weeks. Tha Prime Minister states that it is the intention of the Government in setting up the commission to appoint two experts who have had experience in marine engineering.
Lod?e Excelsior held an installation ceremony on Tuesday, February 3rd, in the Oddfellows' hall, when P.G. Bro. B. Andiew was installed as N.G., and also various officers, by District Deputy-Grand Master Harding, assisted ty P.G. Bro. Davits (Star of Auckland Lodge). The visitors congratulated the officers and brethren on the good attendance and on the great progress made uince the Lodge wbb first instituted, about six years ago. After the ceremony most of the brethren stayed to suoper, and vocal and instrumental music was rendered by brethren. On Wednesday, February 11th, will be installation at the "Star of Waiuku'' Ledge, another very strong Lodge of this progressive order.
Two rinks from the Pukekohe Bowling Club visited Onehunga on Saturday and engaged representatives of that dub. J. Adamj, D. Koulston, C. M. Wright and Eameq (s) were opposed by a rink skipped by E. Wright. On the twentieth head the visitors from the country were leading by two, but on the last head Onehunga got two in and the same ended 21 all. W. Adams, A. B. Barter, W. Blake and Urahnm also had a good game against a rink skipped by Bradley, and after a close contest throughout were only beaten by the narrow margin of three points. 19 JG. Considering the big guns that were opposed to Pukekohe the result was satisfactory.
