STOCK SALES.
Messrs Alfred Buck land and Sons report:—
At Pukekawa on Saturday we held a clearing sale on account ot Mr J. Wightraan. There was a large attendance, and satisfactory prices were obtained. We held our usual monthly sale in the Pukekohe yards on Monday, January 26th, and had a very heavy yarding, all classes of stock being strongly represented. There was a large attendance, but prices were easier in all departments. Dairy cows acd heifers brought from £4 10s to £ll, empty cows £2 10s to £3 18s, forward four-year-old steer? £8 10s to £9, forward three to four-year-olds £7 10s to £8 9s, three-year-olds £6 3s to £7. two to three-year-olds £4 15s to £6 Is, 18month steers £3 13s to £4 4s, good calves £1 13s to £2, others £1 5s to £1 Up, small 15s to £1 3s, weedy 8s to 13s, 18-month in calf heifers £3 10s to £4 10s. Beef, -of which we had the record yarding of 245 head, sold at scarcely Westfield rates. Steers £7 15s to £lO 10s, cows and heifers £4 10s to £8 10s. The 97 bulls sold at from £5 10s to £9 ss, small bulb £3 to £5. There was an average yarding of pigs, which met wilh keen competition. Choppers brought from £3 *s to £3 10s, heavy baconeis £2 15s to £3 2s, lighter £2 8s to £2 14s, large porkers £2 4s to £2 1 If, lighter £1 12s to £2, small £1 8a to £l 14s, slips 13s to 16s, weaners 9s to 12s (172 sold).
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Clevedon Yards o;; Monday we held our first sheep fair of the season. The advertised numbers did not come forward, but pricej were good, and with the exception of one pen, the whole yarding was sold under the hammer. Two-tooth ewes eold a' from 13 Ho 16s 9d, four to six-tooth ewes 12s 6d to 15j 9d, full-mtuth ewes 8s 6d to lis 9d, culls 5s to 7s 9J, lambs 5s 6d to 13s 6d. Romney rams to 3Jgns, Lmcoln rams 2Jgnc, other rams 10s 6d to 255.
At Tuakau yards on Tuesday we held our sheep fair, when the advertistd cumber did not come forward, and prices were from Is to 2s a head higter than last year's rate*, competition being very knn, and the whole yaiding changed hands. Two-tooth ewes sold at from 13s 9d to 15s 9d, fcur to sixtooth ewes 12s to 15s 9d, fresh fullmouth ewes 10s 9d to 14s 9d, aged and cull ewes 8s 9d to 10s 6d. Lambs of good quality eold at from 8s 6d to 10s 6d, other lambs 5s to Bs. Rams: Romney sold to 3Jgns, other rams 10s 6d to ljgns.
