Mr Scott, the present assistant here, is being transferred to Takapuna. Yesterday evening on the Pukekohe bowling green Grant played a challenge game against C. M. Wright, the present cock o' the walk. The holder won comfortably by 27 to 11. This was the fourth successive occasion upon which Wright successfully defended possession of the rooster. Subsequently another garce for the trophy was begun, six heads being played. With the contest this far advanced | the scores stand : Eanus il, Wright The many friends of Mr "Bob'' Fitness, of I'ukekohc, will regret to learn of a serious loss that has befallen him. A little over a week ago he was assisting in hay-making at Belmont when he had the thumb of hifl left hand scratched by a ragged piece of corrugated iron. Although the wound was attended ; lo blocd poisoning set in and the putrefaction extended so rapidly that j a couple of days ago it was found necessary to amputate the patient's left arm close up to the shoulder. The operation was peiformed in Auckland. Mr Fitness was an enthusiastic member of the Puke Kobe Gun Club and his Icllow Btio'!tia»s will be amongst hio keene.-t sympathise. Notwithstanding his loss we trust that Mr Fitness will soon be restored to health. Frank Perkins &Co. have just opened up a nice assortment of the famous Dreadnought Boots and Shoes.
