AT THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Following is the completion of the Borough Council report, held over from last issue:— SCREENINGS.

The foraman reported that since the contractors had been written to there had been an improvement in the bize of metal. Some councillors expressed the opinion that the screenings being delivered for footpaths were too fine, and that it could be procured cheaper. There was some doubt as to the terms of the contract and the matter was referred to the Quarry Committee to attend to.

HARRIS STREET. Cr Pollock drew attention to the footpaths in Harris street, and moved that they be fenced. He said it would be a pity 10 have them spoilt by cattle trampling them down.

Cr Abbott seconded the resolution.

The Mayor doubted if they could legally fence off the footpaths. He suggested putting posts across them.

Cr Pollock asked: If it was illegal to fence off the footpaths, why had the Council sanctioned it in East street? After further discussion Cr Pojlock withdrew his motion and substituted the resolution that tne question be referred to tbe Works Committee, which was carried.
