I ** An Important Railway Line. What Mr Herries Says. IAIJKANC.A, Wednesday. The Hon, Mr Herries, responding to the toast of his health at a complimentary dinner tendered him at Katikati last night, touched on railway matters. I The Minister stated that ha was I strongly in favour ol the eonatrucI tion of the East Coast railway being prosecuted from Motu, via Upotikl, j Tanealua, Matata. l'atngaroa, To I Puke, Tauranga, and Kattknti, to ' Waihi, and thence to Pokeno. The last sevfion, said Mr Hurries, Mas one of the most important links of the line. He wbb speaking mote particularly as Minister lor Railways, and it was essential that something be done to relieve the con- | gestion of the Auckland railway system that took place at Frankton ' Junction. The construction of the Paeroa-Pokeno s.ction of line would enable all traflic from Morrinsville, Thames, Te Aroha, et'*,. besides that of the East Coast, to be diverted to this new sretiun, and this would permit the whole ol the | railway traflic tr. the centre of the J North Island to be simplified. Transport would be greatly facilitated. and it would mean a great saviig in the journey from the East j Coast to Auckland.
