The Acting -District Engineer replied to the Society re showground drainage. Ho understood that the Society wished to deepen the existing railway drain running along the boundary fence, Bucklaod road. The Department would favourably consider the matter if the Society was prepared to pay half of the estimated total (£7) of deepening the drain and undertaking to maintain it in future. If the culvert required to be lowered the Society would have to bear the whole cost.— The president said this was in connection with the outlet from tho new showerounds. It was absolutely necessary that this drain should be cleaned out thoroughly. The matter would be satisfactorily settled within the next fow days. A. E. Wilkinson wrote saying the Jersey breeders' Association would like a small tent on the ground as a meeting place, and asked permission to erect it. Granted* About thirty new members woie elected. Votes of condolence were passed to Mesdamcs WcHsford, Dunbar and A. Smith in the losses sustained by tho death of their husbands who wen members of this Society. In silence, and standing, the resolution was carried. The president reported that the committee had decided rot tu grow any maize this year, nor to cut the hay oti the new showgrounds. It was saia that the local band was defunct, and under the circumstances it wi:i left to the president and secretary to arrange for stow The president suggested that a smoke social be held the same as last year 01: the lirst night of the show. Mr Koulston said if a concert could be worked up for show night they could make a lot of money out of It. The president suggested that the riders at the show should curry numbers on their backs so that the spectators would be able to follow the catalogue Intelligently. Members warmly accepted the suggestion. Tho matter of laying out the new showgrounds was deferred. Stewards were appointed lor tho various classes. The president suggested thut the time had arrived wnen the Executive Committee should be made larger, aa there were a lot of good men whose services would be most helpful.
