Very stringent precautions arc being taken by the new arbitration •LWaterside Workers' Union at AufkVffjTid in admitting new members. Applicants for membership have to be examined personally by a committee and one of the first (juestions? with which they are greeted is: •"Are you an arbitrationist or a federations*.!" About 200 of the ex-strikers appeared before the •commtUe yesterday, and when they were asked what was their attitude in relation to industrial matters, many of them indicated that they were supporters of a system of arbitration, and were not "red-hot fedorationists." However, close enquiry showed that a considerable number of them were sympathetic tovards and the>r applications were promptly rejected. Fortyeight men were absolutely refused admission to the union, and the requests of the others are t'j be further considered.
