WAIUKU ROAD BOARD.

The December Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Waiuku Road Board was held in Waiuku on Saturday, 19th inst., nhen the following members were ' present:-Messrs Kigginson (chairman), Hull. West, Williams. Hodgkiccon and the clerk (Mr W. J. King). TENDERS. As there was a very small response to the tenders for metal it was decided to extend the time for rompie- <, tion of contracts till the second week in May, 1914, as it was stated that several contractors refrained from tendering on account of the time being so short. TO IMPROVE THE WATERWAY. Mr West reported that Messrs Hodgkicson, Williams and himself bad met Mr Sbaldrick, Onehunga manager for the Northern Steam Ship Co., in response to a request .a from the company. Mr Sbaldrick stated that the Waiuku end of the creek would have to be dredged or they were afraid the bottom would be rubbed out of the new boat, and if this work were not done they would have to stop at the sandspit at low tides. After some consultation it was resolved to wire to Mr -ilassey asking for a grant of £6OO for the work to be placed on the Supplementary Estimates, to which , the following reply had since been l received:—"Referring to'your telegram ot the 26th ultimo regarding the desire of your Board to obtain a grant of £SOO to deepen the Waiuku channel near the wharf, I now find that this waterway ia in the Manukau Harbour and is under the control' of the Auckland Harbour Board. The matter of improving the channel appears (o be one for the Board tJ deal with. I regret, therefore, it is not possible for me to assist your Board in the direction desired, and I would suggest you communicate with the Auckland Harbour Board on the subject." Resolved, that the clerk write to the Harbour Board on the matter. " PROPOSED NEW BUILDING. A letter was received from W. Gunson and Co. applying for the lease of a small area ol land »uit- ,J able for the erection of a storage '< abed. The letter stated "that Mr A. J. Bamball, our agent at "'-f Waiuku, would point out what ho t considered a suitable position l , and that the rent would have to be low to warrant the erection of a building. PACKINGTON-MAUKU ROAD. # A letter from the Advance! to Local Authorities read aa follows: "Your letter, dated the 15th ultimo, accepting the sum of £296 -A in lieu of £3OO in respect of the f% loan of £3OO to construct the ' Packington to Mauku road and the Needles wharf and road was duly received. As debenture No. 3, now lodged with the Department, ia executed for £3OO lam enclosing a, ' fresh debenture and declaration form and have to ask you to.be so good as to execute same for £295, to correspond with the amount of the balance of the loan paid over on the 2nd inst. Upon its completion and receipt by this office the debenture now held by the Department for £3OO will be cancelled and returned to you." , RACECOURSE ROAD. • Mr West reported that Mr King and himself had viewed the Racecourse road and found that there were several small jobs really necessary. As there was nothing straight-forward they thought the best way would be to put a man on •lay work. Mr Williams said he thought i' was time something was done to the footpaths in Waiuku; in several places they were fretting away. If a barrel.
