PATUMAHOE.

ladies' return social and dance.

A return social and dance was given bv the Indies of the distrfct on Friday night in the Paturaahoe hall, and despite the unpropiticus weather a Urge number braved the elements and sp:nt a really enjoyable time. An energetic committee hai worked hard to ensure a successful evening, and ail the arrangements worked without a hitch. The hall had been prettily decorated with nikau and rel rambler roses, the contrasting shades being most effective. Mr Sheppard efficiently carried cut the duties of M.C. Good music was supplied by Miss fulleng, Mr Torker and Mr Eisenhut playing the extras. A dainty supper was providad by the ladies, and the floor was in excellent order. All thing 9 combined made it very pleasant for the dancers.

During the evening a flashlight photograph was taken of the assembly. Among the ladies present I noticed the following:-Mrs Henry, in amber coloured silk; Mrs McMurtrie, pink silk, with overdress ot spangled net; Mrs Sheppard, pink ninon, relieved with black; Mis Zinzan, black voile; Mrs Kishton, black velvet, relieved with honi'ton lace; Mrs Hore, pink silk; Mrs McFadden, blue figured voile, silk trimmings; Miss Bailey, white ninon, with canary and bead trimmings; Miss Cranston, champagne crepe de chine, wi'h satin trimmings; Miss T. Cranston, blue velvet, relieved wi*h beid trimmings; Miss F. Bailey, white satin, with overdress of white ninon; Miss Sand?, blae and white iilk muslin; Miss Howard, chamcagne taffeta sill' chiffon, with ribbon and bead trimmings; Miss Knight, wtite embroidered dress; Miss Reddaway, white silk, with blue trimmings; Miss Clark, blue silk, with bead trimmings; Miss Runciman, blae ninon. With silk trimmings; Miss Wilson, creme cloth; Miss Mav Clark, white silk, overdress spangled net; Miss Ruby Clark, creme muslin, black trimmings; Miss Rae white silk; Miss W. Davy, brown voila; Miss Doris Howard, pink muslin; Miss Waller, white muslin. HONOKING THE SPECIALS.

About 80 settler.* were present at the dinner given to the "specials" in the Patumahoe hall. The speakers were Major Lusk, Captain Colbeck, Messrs R. J. Earnes, Schmitt, J. Henry, W. Finlay and T. A. Kemp (who presided). Messrs Haeata and G. Beloe responded for the "specials." An enthusiastic tribute was paid to tLc excellent work done by the Farmers' Union branch secretary, Mr Melville Crispe. In the evening a dance was held. A full report will appear in the next issue.
