TUAKAU SOUTH.
THE PUBLIC SCHOOL.
The school committee met on the 10th inst.
Amongst other business the inspector's report for the year was read, and the chairman in commenting on it remarked that it was the best report be bad ever heard read. Special mention was made of the school garden, which has already carried off two prizes. The committee decided to record the valuable services of the headmaster, Mr Graham, and his assistant. The Board's painting and repairing staff have been at work and have renovated the school buildings. Several other matters want attending to vet, and the committee have corresponded with the Board accordingly. Mr Graham has also been successful again with his pupils for certificates of proficiency, three having passed. BAD WEATHER FOR FLAX. The boisterous weather.lately has been bad for flaxcutting, as the wind made extra high tides and flooded most of the swamps lower down the river, It has been difficult also to dry fibre. SUPPLY OF GOAL. Coal is at a premium yet, although a few have been able to get some by going up to the United Colliuriea ac Maramarua for it, where the men kept at work and did not follow the lead of the red teda. GOOD HAULS OF MULLET. Fish are fairly plentiful down the river ana some good hauls of mullet have been made lately.-
