OTAUA.
CADETS' BALL. The lirst annual ball of the Otaua senior cadets, which was held in the hall on Thursday, November 13th, proved a thorough cuccess. Great credit is due to the cadets, who carried out the arrangements in such a ra'.isfactory manner. The hall was tastefully decorated with flags and evergreens. The music was supplied voluntarily, and Mr G. Deed acted ns M.C. THE STRIKE AND FAKMEKS. The strike has not affected us much here yet, except that ccvcral farmers responded to the call for special police and proceeded to Auckland with their horses. A fresh contingent, under ihc command of Mr Max. Aldred, left on Monday to relieve some who must set horn 0 . It is to be hoped thai any who can posHihly get away tor a week or fo will oiler their services, as if will be neeestaiy to keep a strong force in the town for several weeks yet.
