KARAKA ROAD BOARD.
Monthly Meeting.
2 There were present at Saturday's meeting—Messrs J. Batty (chairman), J. Schlaepfer, R. Johnston and R. Glasson, BKYANT'b ROAD. ° The chairman reported that with Mr Glasson he had met Mr Hartlard regarding an exchange of the unused portion of Bryant's road for the portion of Mr Hartland's property which the Hoard had taken for a deviation further along this road. In addition Mr Haitland offered £3 towards the expenses of the legal transfer. He recommended that the Board sanction ths exchange. The recommendation was adopted. SPAWLINI. The chairman mentioned that at the rcxt meeting the Board would have to considet the advisability of making arrangements for spawling at Jamiesju'a quarry. GORSE. Is gorae a r.oxious weed in the KarsKa road district? asked Mr Johnstor. The clerk: It has not been proclaimed. Mr Johnston: Can't you compel any one to :lear it, then? The chairman: Where is it? Mr Johnston: I.i Runciman on some vacant sections. The chairman: Then yuu can't do anything. You'll have to proclaim il a noxious weed to do this. Mr Johnston: Then I'll move that it be declared a noxious weed. The chairman said what Mr JohnHton wanted was to have gorse cleared in townships, but not necessarily to apply it to the back country. Mr Johnston: That's it. Those sections in Runciman are an eyesore when'you get off the train. Mr Glasson: We have power tj have the frontages cleared without proclaiming it a toxioua weed. Mr Johnston: Can you proclaim it over a certain area? The chairman: I don't think so. Mr Schlaepfer suggested deferring the motion until next meeting. Mr Joht.ston agreed to this. HEARD'S ROAD.
Tha chairman said it had been found out subsequent to the tenders being called tbat Heard's road crossed the creek three times. This wcula mem three bridges in 20 chairs. "What stupidity caused the Department to lay out a road like this is beyond my comprehension," he said. Mr Schlatpfer suggested that the Deparment had "inland navigation" in view. The chairman and Mr Glasson were aut&orised to inspect the creek ar.d report at the next meeting on the possibilities ot a deviation. THE TEAMS. The chairman reported that he had put on the teams on the WaiauDrury road until Mr Sutton was ready to have them on the roads in his ward. KOAD WORK. It was decided to instruct the engineer to push on whh the surveying and calling for tenders for work on all roads on which loan money is to be spent, but the first roads to be attended to to bs those from Gainsr'ord's corner to Tuimata creamery and from No 2. School to the Mauku Road Board boundary.
ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £6 8s 7d were passed for payment. TENDERS. The fulloring tenders were received No, 1 contract. Drury-Waiuku ro:d from Swann's corner to Waiau road; 7000 yards formationH. Matison, £4OB Is 8d (accepted); A. J. Moore, £460 13s 4d; 'l'orpy Bros, £452 10s. No. 2 cont-act, Runciman-l'aarata road to end of boundary Nc. 1 ward, 1500 yards formation:—H. Mattson, £IOO (accepted); A. J. Moore, £100; Tcrpy Bros., £l2O 10s. No 3 contract, Paerata road to Gainsford's corner, 5000 yards formation: —H. Mattson, £291 13a 4d (accepted); A. J. Moore, £333 6s 8d; Torpy Bros., £343 6s Bd.
