PATUMAHOE.

PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS MASQUERADE BALL, The plain and fancy dress masquerade ball held in the Patumahce hail on Thursday, the 16th inst., proved, as is usual with Patumahoe functions, a decided success. For some weeks previous an energetic committee had been working hard to ensure a pleasant night's enjoyment, and it must be gratifying to them to have their efforts so well rewarded. The hall had been very prettily decorated for tne occasion with nikau, ferns and greenery, and the floor was in excellent condition for dancing. Mr W. Howard acd Mr F. Kavanagh, senr., efficiently carried cut the duties of M.'sC. Good music was supplied by the local etring band. Miss Bailey played the extras. Mr Stronach, attired in Highland costume, danced the step dance and the sword dance particularly well. The supper tables, artistically decorated by the ladies cf the committee, and laden with all kinds of d. 3 licacie3, looked very attractive.

The threatening weather no dcubt militated against a large attendance, but the nail was comfortably filled. Among thOße present in fancy dress I noticed the following:—Miss Wat9on, "Crimson Rambler"; Mies V. Watson, "Stars and Stripes"; Miss Bailey, "Spanish Dancer"; Miss F. Bailey, "Five O'clock Tea"; Miss Cranston, "Japanese Lady"; Miss McCarthy, "Dutch Girl"; Miss Sands, "Miranda'; Miss Clarke, "Brittany Fishwife"; Mr Roy Moore, "Maori Woman"; Mr C. Howard, "Mohawk Indian"; Mr Dale, "Australian Rough Rider"; Mr Cotter, "Christy Minstrel."
